Prosecutor Rob Beckman was born on March 8, 1951 in Michigan City, Indiana, and as a child of divorced parents was raised by a single working mother.  He attended local schools graduating from Elston High School in 1969, attended Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana, graduating in 1973 after achieving his Bachelors Degree in History and Political Science, and attended Pepperdine University School of Law, Malibu, California, graduating in 1978 after achieving his Juris Doctorate Degree.  Rob was married to Attorney Jo Beckman, a Smith College graduate and Pepperdine University School of Law graduate for thirty years, until she lost her battle with cancer in 2008, and has two children, Bethany and Kevin. 

Rob’s 31 year legal career includes; 10 years as a Public Defender in the LaPorte County Court System, 12 years as a Deputy Prosecutor in LaPorte County, 11 years as Michigan City’s Corporation Counsel and 19 years as a Private Practicing Attorney with emphasis on litigation and trial work.  He was elected Prosecuting Attorney for LaPorte County Indiana, 32nd Judicial Circuit in 1998, and continues to serve the County in that capacity.
